Everyone has a bit of a beast inside…

After five years traveling through third world countries to teach impoverished children, Samira Suarez has returned home to Black Meadows. What Sam didn’t expect was to be instantly overwhelmed by the desire to be with the one man she’s wanted since she was a teen, Riel Karven.

Riel has been patiently waiting for Sam’s return. For five long years he’s backed off and watched her come and go. This is it. His mate is back and he’s taking a stand.

Sam’s need for Ry grows to unimaginable proportions. It’s almost as if she were in heat. But she’s a human…isn’t she?

There’s more at stake than Sam and Ry’s future relationship when she inherits her grandmother’s estate. One of her many relatives wants her out of the way.

It’s going to take all of Ry’s determination and help from his friends to keep her alive. And it’s going to take delving into her past to find out why a human is going into mating heat.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Very often we sit down to read what we hope will be a good book. It’s the second in a series, the first having been almost technical perfection in your eyes; you can only hope that this second book lives up to your expectations. Unfortunately, often times we are disappointed, left wanting for a better word. The story is missing something or you can’t connect with the characters the way you did with the first. Sadly this happens more than I’d like to think of. So it was with some trepidation that I sat down with Caged Heat, book 2 in the Black Meadows Pack series by Milly Taiden. You see, Sharp Change (book 1) was the first book I read by Ms. Taiden and I devoured every word of it. I even found myself rereading it when I had nothing else on my plate. I could only hope that book 2 lived up to my high expectations of Ms. Taiden’s writing.

Love, lust, sexy shifters and a mystery to solve… how could this possibly go wrong? It can’t. Taiden weaves a sensually erotic tale of unrequited love and the woman who inspires it. Being a shifter, Riel has known all along that Sam is his mate but he does the right thing and let’s her go. Sam needs to grow, to come in to her own, apart from her nasty family. But now after 5 years, Sam is finally home and living next door. Riel has the chance to get the one that got away to finally stand up and take notice before whoever is trying to kill her succeeds.

Although I must say I missed Taiden’s quirky sense of humor, which she imbeds in every one of her stories, her unique style of writing and way with words made this reviewer stand up and notice. Was Caged Heat perfect? No. There were a couple of minor inconsistencies that only someone who has read Sharp Change several times may notice. However, that aside, Taiden wrote a heroine we would all like to know and a hero that will have you fantasizing of late nights by the pool.
