Reviewer’s Thoughts

Cassandra Clarke, freshly graduated from college with her teaching degree, has still not gotten over the hurt and humiliation she suffered at the hands of her cheating boyfriend a year prior.  She’s practically sworn off men and tends to shy away from them, that is until her new neighbor moves in.  From that point on, sparks fly between Logan and Cassie.  She fights him at every turn, destined to not be a notch in his bedpost.  But his four year old son ends up bringing them together and a friendship forms.  The only problem is whether Cassie and Logan can get passed their old relationship wounds to build a solid relationship with each other.

This is another book where I’m on the fence.  There were times where I liked both Logan and Cassie, then there were the other times where I wanted to ring both of their necks.  We all have experiences that form our opinion of certain things in the future.  For Logan and Cassie, they both had big relationship hang ups.  But my issue with them was the fact that they painted every person of the opposite sex the same as the person who hurt them.  With Cassie, she barely gives Logan the time of day because he’s this playboy she despises.  Logan figures Cassie’s going to run off and abandon him just like his ex, so he’s insistant he’s only going to sleep with her one time and then they can move on.  It was aggravating.

But a little ray of sunshine, in the form of four year old Oliver  who helped bridge the gap between Cassie and Logan.  Through Oliver, they were able to develop a friendship that meant everything to both of them.  Of course, no story can be complete without the arch-enemy of one (or both) of the characters coming along to rain on their parade.  In this case, it’s Logan’s ex (although Cassie’s does his best to get in her head) that does the damage.  Unfortunately, she comes in at the very end of the book, which results in some emotional devastation that leads us to a cliffhanger ending.

I will say, I’m intrigue enough by the events at the end of the book to want to read book 2.  Frankly, I need to know what Logan’s going to do to prove to Cassie what he said is true.  Fingers crossed, I won’t have to wait for long.
