15831827She’s got three rules:

1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she’s ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she’s dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.

2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William “Wild Bill” Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he’s no boy. Now he’s a covert operative – and he’s all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it’s someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.

3. And never fall for the same ruse twice… The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Despite what the Chicago police believe, Eve Edens believes someone is trying to kill her after one too many “accidents” that could potentially leave her dead. She does the only thing she can think to do and seeks help from her best friend’s company, Black Knights, Inc. With her best friend Becky not around, she has to rely on her ex-boyfriend Billy Reichart who just happens to be Becky’s brother. What happens is a series of mishaps, shootings, and enough family drama to keep your attention.

Eve was a take charge female, who had clearly moved beyond her controlling father and ex-husband to become the independent woman that we see during the novel. Billy is the ultimate alpha male, he helps Eve despite the fact that she broke his heart years ago, and his war stories will make you want to take care of him. Julie Ann Walker does a good job of keeping the action coming, with enough romance and sexual tension between the two main characters to sizzle on the page.

I am a lover of alpha males with dirty mouths, strong heroines putting alpha males in their place, and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm a proud hockey mom who can often be found at the hockey rink cheering on my favorite forward, with my kindle close by.
