Reviewer’s Thoughts

IT HAPPENED ONE WEDDING is another delicious read by Julie James. I know I can always count on Julie James for an entertaining story, witty dialogue and interesting characters full of snarky comments. I wasn’t disappointed. Sidney Sinclair is in her thirties and has just moved back to Chicago from New York after breaking up with her fiancé. She is disillusioned and embarrassed after catching her fiancé with a much younger woman and is having a hard time moving on. Vaughn Roberts and Sidney first meet when he tries to pick her up in a coffee shop and she turns him down cold. Vaughn is irked by Sidney’s rejection. He has never been rejected by a woman and even though her assessment of him is dead on, he still finds it annoying. Vaughn likes having fun with women and isn’t interested in settling down, but it bugs him when Sidney calls him on it, without even knowing him. They are both surprised when they are thrown together again when Vaughn’s brother and Sidney’s sister decide to get married. Vaughn reminds Sidney of her ex and every time they meet she makes sarcastic remarks to him.

Vaughn has all the elements for the perfect book boyfriend. He is ruggedly sexy, smart, an FBI agent, witty, down to earth and has a great body. Oh, and I can’t forget, his masculine voice has a rough grit to it. Sidney is beautiful, smart and has a successful career, but her list of how to know when a man is ready for a permanent relationship, had me laughing. Julie James has written a fast paced, humorous story, yet it has touching emotional moments too. There are engaging secondary characters. Some of them make appearances from the previous books in this series. There is a lot of trash talking between the guys and it seems Vaughn can’t make a move without someone commenting about it. I love all the verbal volleys Vaughn and Sidney throw at each other. This is the fifth book in the FBI/US Attorney series, but each one is a stand alone.
