Reviewer’s Thoughts

I love romantic suspense novels so I was very excited to read the book. The cover is smokin’ hot as well and that cemented my decision to give this new-to-me author a try. I didn’t know that it was a novella to begin a series at the time, but that didn’t make it any easier to read.

I couldn’t relate to the characters or some of the dialogue. I had to start and stop the book several times because I wasn’t able to get into the storyline. The novella ends with the bad guy getting away while kidnapping Rena, a paid informant working at the Trailblazers bar operated by said bad guy. Then the story jumps one month later with Skip and Natasha tucked away in a love nest. They get the call from their boss to get back to work, I guess? It’s not clear as to what it was about but I assume it’s to find the missing woman. There is mention of her, but as I said, nothing is clear.

I was a little dumbfounded after finishing the novella. I thought I missed something so I checked out the author’s website and there is no mention of what book is next or the direction of the series. The read was okay but I just felt bereft after finishing the story. The concept of the series is solid but the delivery needs some work. I’m not sure I’ll check out future books by the author but I respect her writing and applaud her effort.
