Shane River is the last of the Bad Oak boys to feel the pull of his animal trying to get out. Problem is, once he shifts, the wolf wants nothing more than to run far away… alone. He’s an Alpha Lone Wolf, and that means he doesn’t need a pack.
Tim Cooper thought his father was human. He wasn’t. He thought his werewolf mother could survive anything. She didn’t. He thought he’d never be able to shift, but he thought wrong, and the truth is more disturbing than anything he could’ve imagined.
When Shane finds Tim’s mother dying in the desert, he vows to track down the vicious wolf-coyote hybrids responsible for the attack. He doesn’t expect her son Tim: a hybrid who has no idea what he is. He doesn’t expect Tim’s animal to call to his wolf. And he certainly doesn’t expect to mate with a creature ravaged by grief, but when instinct howls, the wolf must obey.

I really have enjoyed the “Bad Oak Boys” series.  I’ve not been reading as many shifter series as I used to, but Erin Leaf is a favorite of mine, and so are her stories about a rock band with shifter blood who discover their animal selves and find their true mates.

In “Lone Wolf”, we meet Shane.  He’s the last Bad Oak Boy to shift.  He becomes an Alpha Lone Wolf.  He doesn’t need a pack, and he never imagined having a mate, but sure enough, he meets Tim in the desert.  Tim is burying his werewolf mother after she’s been killed by a vicious pack of wolf/coyote hybrids.  He’s always thought his father was a human and didn’t realize he could shift.  Boy was he surprised!  What follows is a great story with action, mystery, angst, love, and hot sex.

I like Shane and Tim together.  They have an instant chemistry that neither of them know what to do with.  They both seem determined to ignore their connection, even though it’s powerful.  They also have to deal with Shane’s family of shifters.  Thanks to Tim’s hybrid bloodline, they’re not as welcoming as they have been with the other pack members’ mates.  It’s understandable, of course, because of the terrible things the wolf/coyotes have done, but even after Shane has fallen for Tim, they don’t treat him well until close to the end.  Still, they need each other, and when that’s finally obvious, they come together for the final fight.

In “Lone Wolf”, all the characters from the first three books come together to battle the evil that is threatening the pack.  It was nice to read about them all again, but they sort of paled in comparison for me.  Shane and Tim are a couple worth rooting for.  They are both stubborn and powerful, and their road to a happily ever after isn’t smooth at all.  Sometimes, I wanted to throttle them, but most of the time, I just wanted to hug them and tell them that everything will be alright, and they should hold on for just a little while longer.

I’m going to miss this series very much.  It was exciting, fun, sweet, and very sexy.  If Erin Leaf ever decided to revisit the Bad Oak Boys, I’d be first in line to read it.  Definitely recommend this.
