Natalie Shay never imagined a day like this would come. She did what she was supposed to do: graduate college and marry her handsome, popular college sweetheart. With the ink still drying on their divorce papers, Natalie tries to move on from an ending she thought would be happy.

When she feels a spark with her stubborn, charming best friend Aidan Costa, Natalie's life becomes even more unrecognizable. Aidan has been her best friend for years, stood beside her when she got married, and has a notorious aversion to relationships. As confusion and denial overwhelm them, their spark grows.

Held back by a secret he has been keeping his whole life, Aidan decides to ignore his feelings for Natalie. Natalie's discovery of his secret pushes them past the boundaries they've carefully constructed around their friendship.

For Natalie, this could be a second chance at her happily ever after. But when a person from Aidan's past reappears, everything he has built with Natalie is threatened.

I love the friends to lovers trope, so when I read the blurb for this one I eagerly waited for it to hit my kindle.  If only the story lived up to the hype I created.

Natalie and Aidan are childhood friends.  He was the one constant growing up that understood the facade she put on for everyone.  And as adults, when Natalie’s world falls apart he’s there for her.  Always.  And I think that’s what bothered me with this slow building romance.  Yes, these friends ultimately figure out they want more from each other and attempt to jump in.  But when Aidan really needs support from Natalie, she runs the other way.  I’m pretty sure if the thing that made Natalie run turned out differently these two still wouldn’t be together…because Natalie chooses what’s easiest for her.  Her choices made me question the whole foundation of their friendship and if they can really have a HEA.

Others may enjoy this story, but I need to be able to believe this pretend romance could work.  I seriously had my doubts with this one…even with the nice tidy ribbon at the end.
