Private Investigator Kira Vance spends her days navigating the intricate labyrinth of Houston’s legal world, and she knows all of its shadowy players and dark secrets.

On a seemingly normal day, she’s delivering a report to her top client when suddenly everything goes sideways and the meeting ends in a bloodbath. Twenty-four hours later, the police have no suspects but one thing is clear: a killer has Kira in his sights.

Fiercely independent, Kira doesn’t expect—or want—help from anyone, least of all an unscrupulous lawyer and his elite security team. Instead, she launches her own investigation, hoping to uncover the answers that have eluded the police. But as Kira’s hunt for clues becomes more and more perilous, she realizes that she alone may hold the key to finding a vicious murderer. And she knows she must take help wherever she can find it if she wants to stay alive.

Laura Griffin has become one of my favorite authors and I enjoy everything she writes. She knows how to write edge of the seat suspense with romance and strong female leads.

Kira, a PI is stunned when her partner is murdered right in front of her. Even though she doesn’t understand why someone would murder him, Kira doesn’t think she is in danger and is upset when she learns Jeremy is hired to protect her. Kira is too busy trying to solve the mystery of why someone would want to kill her colleague, she doesn’t have time to waste on a bodyguard who wants to know her every move.

Jeremy is former military and takes his job as a bodyguard seriously. When he meets Kira he knows she will make his life difficult because she resents being hampered by a bodyguard. Jeremy knows he shouldn’t get involved with a client, but he can’t seem to help his attraction to Kira. Jeremy admires everything about Kira, especially her dedication to her job. Jeremy is all alpha male:  protective, strong and silent.

Jeremy and Kira are hot on the trail of a killer.  They are using all their instincts and knowledge to figure out what is happening and why people are being killed.  This is a fast paced, heart pounding suspenseful story. The only issue I had with this story was the ending seemed abrupt to me.  I would have liked an epilogue telling us how Jeremy and Kira work everything out. This is the second book in the Wolfe security series.
