Lexi Brooks has overcome adversity to build a successful real estate business that will allow her to live life on her terms. The life she envisions includes travel, fun, and excitement, not marriage, kids, or commitment. But will Trey’s sexy bodyguard, Josh, throw a wrench into her plans?
Being a cop has taught Josh Cooper to take calculated risks, but he’s tired of living with the daily threat of danger. He’s ready to settle down with someone who wants to be a step-mother to his two teenage sons. Too bad Lexi isn’t that woman. She’s smart, sexy, head-strong, and they’re totally in sync in the bedroom, but she isn’t willing to settle into a life of domestic bliss. Or is she?

Josh Cooper and Lexi Brooks have been each other’s best friend for quite a while.  They talk or text every day, even when they lived hundreds of miles apart.  But when Josh announces that he’s ready to find a wife and have a baby, it throws their relationship into a tailspin.

Lexi has taken a hard stand on marriage and family.  She doesn’t want either and only she will control her destiny.  The problem is, she’s in love with Josh and can’t imagine not having him in her life.  But she knows if he gets married, his wife won’t want her around.  While she’d love to be able to live the life she proclaims she wants, she measures every man she meets against Josh and they all fall short.

Josh has wanted Lexi forever but he knows they both want different things   And while he knows he should be looking for that woman to spend the rest of his life with, he can’t let go of Lexi or the hope that he’d be able to change her mind.

Josh and Lexi have a lot to work through.  Their biggest issue:  Lexi comparing Josh to her abusive father and ex.  She fears being controlled by another person and figures having a string of one night stands and friends will eliminate that issue.  But Josh can’t let go of Lexi either.  Every time he says he’s done with trying to convince her they should be together or to stay with him, he falters and he’s right back in the same situation of pining away for her.

Lexi ultimately needed to let go of the ghosts from her past and realize that her future has been standing in front of her all along.
