Coral Sinclair is a beautiful but na ve twenty-five-year-old photographer who has just lost her father. She’s leaving the life she’s known and traveling to Kenya to take ownership of her inheritance–the plantation that was her childhood home–Mpingo. On the voyage from England, Coral meets an enigmatic stranger to whom she has a mystifying attraction. She sees him again days later on the beach near Mpingo, but Coral’s childhood nanny tells her the man is not to be trusted. It is rumored that Rafe de Monfort, owner of a neighboring plantation and a nightclub, is a notorious womanizer having an affair with her stepmother, which may have contributed to her father’s death. Circumstance confirms Coral’s worst suspicions, but when Rafe’s life is in danger she is driven to make peace. A tentative romance blossoms amidst a meddling ex-fianc, a jealous stepmother, a car accident, and the dangerous wilderness of Africa. Is Rafe just toying with a young woman’s affections? Is the notorious womanizer only after Coral’s inheritance? Or does Rafe’s troubled past color his every move, making him more vulnerable than Coral could ever imagine? Set in 1970, this contemporary historical romance sends the seemingly doomed lovers down a destructive path wrought with greed, betrayal, revenge, passion, and love.

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

Rafe de monfort has spent years hiding in the shadows of his pain; escaping through a woman’s touch. After that fateful day, the tarnishing of his life and reputation he has closed his heart forever…; or so he thought. Spending years painting the same face, the same eyes, hearing all of her letters has lit a spark in the one place he has tried so hard to keep closed. For Rafe, trying to kill this spark Coral has ignited will prove to be impossible and now he has to make her see that he is so much more; now he has to tell her the truth and pray that she will believe him.

Coral thought for sure he was the one for her, but as fate would have it she is now Africa bound and single. Apparently, asking that her purity and virtues stay intact until marriage was too much for Dale. All seems to be headed down hill; that is until a handsome stranger ignites a passion she didn’t even know existed. Even finding out about his blotched passed and hearing the rumors that spread like wild fire can’t kill the ache she has for him. If only he would speak up and tell her the truth.

These two characters are like moths to the flame. Each one has their own inner demons to fight and at some point have to learn to forgive the past. In spite of the fact that he has a past history of overly flaunting himself while she is completely innocent, they still have so many similarities. They fit like two puzzle pieces, just right.

I found this book to be as such. A puzzle of pieces and in the end they match up just right. The text is plain in itself but the story is absolutely wonderful. This story bases itself on love, the kind that runs deep, the kind that leaves you knowing without a doubt, that person loves you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found that it warmed every corner of my heart.
