They have a deal: Rachel will teach the newly divorced Mac to date again, and he’ll accompany her to her brother’s wedding. Seems like a straight forward trade, but when Mac decides the kisses he wants can only be found on Rachel’s lips, he sabotages all her efforts to find him another woman.
Rachel’s never met a man more inept at meeting women. If he’s not sharing inappropriate information, he’s hitting them with the worst come-on lines she’s ever heard. The man can’t even do a decent Texas Two-Step. If she didn’t need a date to her brother’s wedding so desperately . . .

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

“Hey Sexy! Want to get naked with me?”

How much better of an opening line can you get? This line sets the pace for what I termed the Mac and Rachel train wreck of a courtship. This happens to be the least Mac’s come on lines. It makes you wonder just how Mac managed to not only meet his ex wife, Gloria, but actually convince her to marry him. His nervousness at being newly single after 12 years of marriage was endearing if a little obsessive. I don’t know any divorced men, but I wondered if this was typical behavior for them. It would explain a lot of those divorced men stereotypes if it were. That aside, Mac’s character is very endearing. He brings to mind that one single guy we all know. You know the one, the one you go to the bar with for a few drinks and then pretend to not know when he embarrasses you by coming on to everything in a skirt with the worse pick up lines ever. But you can’t help quietly rooting for him the entire time.

Rachel on the other hand is a paradox. Everyone makes her out to be a bossy woman, domineering to the point of being obnoxious. Even her own brothers warn Mac away from a relationship with their sister. Somehow I didn’t see it though. Yes, she’s a bit bossy… she’s one of the oldest out of 13 children. Of course she’s bossy. It comes from having 10 younger siblings. I just didn’t see what the fuss was about constantly pointing out this personality flaw. It never makes such a strong appearance that I felt it would have bore mentioning at all.

After her trauma (no spoilers here), Mac is exactly the kind of man Rachel needs. Mac is kind, caring and patient. I’m just not sure that Rachel was the kind of woman Mac needed. His ex wife was traumatized and used Mac to get over the trauma. Now the next woman he gets involved with is in a similar situation. How is this supposed to inspire the belief in Mac getting a HEA? That being said, the natural progression of the relationship between these two was heartwarming.
