Review: Untamed – Sara Humphreys

The Amoveo are an ancient race who’ve lived secretly among humans for thousands of years. They are beautiful and incredibly strong but their race is extremely fragile–each has until the age of 30 to find their soul mate, before their bodies start to die a slow, painful death.
Layla Nickelsen has spent her life running from a mate she didn’t choose, until William Fleury finally confronts her. Normally stoic and unemotional, William finds himself befuddled by Layla: his growing feelings for her and his driving need to protect her. And Layla has to admit that William might be everything she’s always wanted after all…

Reviewer’s Thoughts:

As a hybrid, Layla has known her whole life that some day he will come for her… The Amoveo male who will come to claim her as his mate. What she didn’t know was that she would be so drawn to him. A free-spirited photographer, the last thing she expected was a three-piece suit wearing lawyer for a mate. Yet all the differences in the world couldn’t keep these two away from each other. What should have been a simple matter of convincing his unwilling mate that they belong together becomes so much more when an attack brings her safety into question. Can William keep her safe until they figure out who is behind the attack and convince her they belong together?
I found the romance aspect was very subtle. There is obvious chemistry between the two characters, but unlike what we have grown to expect out of shifter romances, William actually tries to make a connection and try to get to know Layla. Which is why my favorite line in the book is when he finally confesses his feelings.

“Fate or imprinting, or whatever the hell my people want to call it – none of that can make me love you.”
“I love you, Layla. I love your stubborn streak, the way you love Rosie, Raife, and Tati. I admire you desire for independence, and Lord knows, I love your moxie.”
“Fate didn’t make me love you… you did.”

Seriously? Be still my heart, if Layla doesn’t snatch him up I will!
A shifter romance, I was pleasantly surprised to find the action to be just as in depth as the romance. Although I found the outcome was a bit predictable, as Ms. Humphreys gives us plenty of clues as to motive for the attack, I still found myself looking forward to the big reveal moment. And I wasn’t disappointed. Even then, the drama doesn’t stop there.

Although the third installment in the Amoveo Legends series, Untamed can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. However, this is one series, in it’s entirety, that’s getting added to my must read list. I can’t wait to see who gets their own book next.  Perhaps a sexy Tiger shifter with a penchant for wearing fatigues and guarding royal families? We can only hope.

I am a lover of alpha males with dirty mouths, strong heroines putting alpha males in their place, and the Chicago Blackhawks. I'm a proud hockey mom who can often be found at the hockey rink cheering on my favorite forward, with my kindle close by.
