Reviewer’s Thoughts

Scandal in the Night is a historical romanctic suspense novel.  The novel begins at a certain point in history and reflects back to earlier times throughout the novel.  That was my major problem with this novel.  It was a constant back and forth with the two main characters,  Thomas Jellicoe and Catriona Rowan.  I found it very difficult to keep up with the jumps back in time with two different characters.  Thomas’ character might jumpt back two years ago and then Catriona might jump back to when she was with her family.  I just had trouble making sure that I could keep up with the storyline and assimilate the information from the reflections on the past.

There were a few times in the novel that I felt like it was longer than it needed to be.  It was suspenseful up to the end, but the romance was a little lacking.  It’s near the end before the characters reflect on any intimacy.  The middle was a little tough for me to get through, but I enjoyed the ending.  Elizabeth Essex definitely is talented in writing and her ability to weave a compelling story.
