Review: Misadventures in Seduction – Robyn DeHart

Posted October 5, 2014 by Cocktails and Books in / 0 Comments

With five siblings to care for, Prudence Hixsby’s duty comes first, even if it means becoming a spinster. When the eldest – and most cherished – of her younger brothers decides to join the war, however, Prudence is determined to keep him safe. So she strikes a bargain with an old acquaintance: her body in exchange for her brother’s safety.
In the dead of the night, she slips into the bed of a man whose touch is both fierce and passionate… little knowing she’s just seduced the wrong man.
Harrison Carlisle, the Duke of Sutcliffe, never imagined that the lovely Prudence would honour his bed, or just how bewitching those lush curves could be. Yet he keeps a gentleman’s silence. After all, a spy for the Crown can ill afford to marry. But when Prudence’s brother is killed, they find themselves uniting to track down the traitorous murderer. And while death lurks within the shadowy world of espionage, there is also passion… and the unbidden thrill of a seduction!

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Prudence Hixsby is desperate to save her brother, Johnston, from dying in the war.  She had to take on the task of raising her siblings after the death of their parents.  Prudence is so desperate that she agrees to exchange her body for Johnston’s safety.  The problem is that she shares her body with the wrong person. I was sold on this storyline as soon as I read it.  The idea of a sister being desperate enough to sacrifice herself for her brother is endearing.  The author did an excellent job of showing the multiple sides of Prudence’s personality.  I immediately felt vested in her story and wanted to see her have a happy ending.  She was sweet, smart, funny, and brave.  She was the type of person that I could easily see as being a best friend.

Harrison Carlisle, Duke of Sutcliffe received a delightful surprise when Prudence crawled into his bed.  He’s disappointed when he realizes that she made a mistake and never chose him.  He finds himself allied with Prudence as they work together to discover the person that killed her brother and is trying to fame Harrison for treason.  Harrison and Prudence have chemistry in and out of the bedroom.  She amazes him with her spirit and intellect.  They fight off bad guys, uncover clues, and decode messages while fighting their feelings for each other.

This novella was the best of intrigue and romance.  Robyn Dehart is now on my list of favorite authors.  I laughed, cried, and cheered for Harrison and Prudence throughout the novella.  I look forward to reading my next Robyn Dehart novel.  My only desire is that this would have been a full length novel.
