Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

I’m going to be honest and say that I don’t like duets. I normally will avoid them until both books are published. The main thing that got me to read this right now is who the authors are, especially Elisabeth Grace. Now that I’m done with the All We Were, I’m not sure how I feel. I’m a bit conflicted and distressed that I don’t know what’s going to happen next. It’s going to be a long 2 month wait.

All We Were is not an easy book. It’s well written with complex, flawed characters. You see the lowest of lows, you see the climb out, you see deception, rugs ripped out, and falls back down.
It speaks to the quality of the writing and the seamless working relationship of the co-authors that I am invested in what will happen with Lilah and James next. Will they be able to each have a happily ever after?

I also have a hard time rating book one of a duet, because the story isn’t done. All We Were pulled me in and has me hooked to see what happens next – my fingers are crossed that I end up loving how the whole story wraps up.

Will I ever stop hurting the one person who’s never hurt me?

I’ve done things I can never undo.

No matter how much I wish I could, sometimes the wounds I inflict are too deep, too catastrophic, too septic to heal.

As I look into the eyes of the only man I’ve ever loved I know I’ve gone too far. I’ve finally crossed the line.

Even if he knew my reason for doing this, he’d never forgive me.

He always puts my needs before his own.

Now it’s my turn to protect him.

None of that matters though because the betrayal and disgust in his eyes comes from deep within his soul. There’s no coming back from this.

He will forever be tormented by what he’s seen, and he will never forgive me.

The last fragment of my heart to hold out hope that we’d share a future, withers and dies.

Coming face-to-face with my past changes EVERYTHING.

I’m at the top of my game. All my struggles have finally paid off. Life should be great.

I mean, life is great.

Except for the fact that I can’t stop thinking of her. The woman who mangled my heart into a bloody pulp and never looked back.

If I could free myself of our shared memories, my future would be golden.

There’s only one way to move on—I have to confront the past, so I can move into the next chapter of my life in peace. Which means confronting her for the final time.

I had no idea that knocking on her door that day would turn my life upside down.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
