She’s his brother’s nanny...and totally off-limits.

In an effort to escape her overprotective mother, Cassie moves to Tampa to decide her future and claim her independence. When she lands a job as a live-in nanny to adorable twin infants, she’s convinced she’s on the right track.

Until she meets her new roommate: Tom. He’s an off-the-charts gorgeous neurologist (are they even allowed to be that sexy?) her boss’ brother, and also her aunt’s best friend. There are way too many points of contact for them to take the risk...but Cassie can’t help but fantasize what contact with him would feel like.

Tom knows the stakes, but Cassie’s vibrant spirit strikes a chord in his heart and he can’t stay away. But just when they start to think they’re moving in sync, the unthinkable happens. Did taking the risk create a chasm too wide to bridge?

**Risky Move is a standalone book in the Tampa Suns Hockey series. This sweet and spicy full-length novel can be read on its own—no cliffhanger, no cheating and a guaranteed Happily Ever After.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from L. Woods PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

Robyn M Ryan is a new author for me and I took a chance because the concept sounded interesting.

The concept was in fact interesting. A sweet romance born of friendship and shared values that felt slightly forbidden because of how entangled both lives were. The characters of Cassie and Tom were easy to like and root for.

What made this an average read vs something higher rated was the execution. To be a bit brutal, I found Risky Move boring. For a sports related romance, this book is long and the author has us nearly half way through before even hinting that there might be a romance brewing.
Adding to that, the secondary cast is very large and it was as times confusing as to who people were and their relationship to the main characters.

Something that I normally ignore when reading an advance copy of the book is editing issues, especially knowing the books aren’t final. Unfortunately, with this book, I couldn’t ignore the edits. There were several places where I was confused regarding Tom’s relationship (age wise) to other characters. Vague hints were referenced as to how he fit with other characters, but little clarity offered. The other issue was the misuse of character names, especially in the second half of the story, Cassie’s name was repeatedly swapped for that of another character whose presence in the scene would not make sense.

I don’t want to judge an author or series based on one book, but Risky Move is not a book I can recommend very highly. If you are loyal follower of Ms Ryan, this book may appeal to you. If she’s new to you, you might want to start at the beginning of the series to (hopefully) avoid the issues surrounding the large secondary cast.

I am a full time mom who works part time. I squeeze reading in wherever I can between work, volunteer stuff, and kid activities. I read a little bit of everything, but really enjoy indie authors and Happy- Ever-Afters. I've been reviewing for Cocktails and Books since January 2015.
