New Release: Winning My Best Friends Girl by Piper RayneGenres: Contemporary Romance, Family & Relationships
three-half-stars

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Wildfire Marketing in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.

Winning My Best Friend’s Girl is the 8th book in the saga of the Bailey siblings and focuses on Kingston (one of the younger siblings) as he reconnects with his unrequited high school love, Stella.

I’ve missed several of the Bailey books along the way, but I was still excited to dive into Kingston’s story. I enjoyed seeing both Kingston and Stella battle through their emotional baggage to try to find a happily ever after.

With a series as long as the Bailey’s, one of the challenges is maintaining the large secondary cast. Piper and Rayne did an excellent job of letting some of siblings “fall away” to not over crowd things and let Kingston and Stella shine. This was balanced by letting us see the siblings that most impacted our lead couple as well as the last remaining Bailey to tell her story.

One unique thing about Winning My Best Friend’s Girl was the placement of the story’s conflict. The challenges King and Stella faced in giving a real relationship a try helped to create a conflict that actually ran through the first part of the story. This was a neat approach that helped this feel like a fresh read even though we are so far into the series.

We also saw several new characters introduced…. that makes me wonder, will we have a fire house or hospital series? I am looking forward to seeing what’s next from this author duo.

Release Date: July 21

Imagine lying in a hospital bed and the doctor who pulls the curtain back to treat you is the one who got away. Even if you never really had her in the first place. She’s not only your high school crush, she’s the ex-girlfriend of your ex-best friend. The one girl you’ve always wanted.

Here’s a step-by-step list to finally win her over…
Key to win #1:  Try not to take offense that she snuck back into town without telling you—six months ago.
Key to win #2: Rekindle the friendship to ease the awkwardness. But… DO NOT enter the friend zone.
Key to win #3: Ignore the fact that she went speed dating the night before. Take it as good a sign—maybe she’s looking for a relationship.
Key to win #4: Attempt to keep the two of you out of the town gossip blog and away from your large family.

Make sure you don’t let this last one throw you off your mission.

Key to win #5: Don’t get deterred when you find out the past is about to repeat itself. Because the man she met at the speed dating night is your best buddy from work.

Just remember, you sat back and let her slip away once, you won’t do it a second time.

Failure is not an option.
