The Trouble with #9 is the second installment featuring the hockey hunks of the Florida Fury. The first book introduced us to the Aiden-Maksim-Ford bromance as we saw Aiden attempt to woo his Lady Luck. Here, it’s Maksim’s turn to try and figure things out.

I enjoyed meeting Maksim and his leading lady, Paisley. Both are interesting and dynamic characters, even if they approach things a little differently. A couple of things I genuinely appreciated about these characters: for Maksim that while he’s a “bad boy” on the ice, it doesn’t carryover into his off ice attitude. For Paisley, it’s the fact that while I think she’s a bit too hard on herself, she owns the baggage she brings to the table.

The set up for this story introduces just the right about of conflict to create tension with several “will this be it?” moments before we see the true issue surface. It was nice to see realistic relationship interactions and two people who were willing to try to communicate.

As the second installment of the series, this book doesn’t have to do as much as the world building work as My Lucky #13, but it does it’s fair share, especially in expanding the secondary cast and adding to the back story for book #3. The duo behind Piper Rayne does an excellent job of balancing the series work with the story of Maksim and Paisley. This was an entertaining read that left looking forward to seeing what might happen to Ford when he gets his turn!

Trouble.
One word that comes to mind when someone talks about me. I like to think of it as protection, watching out for the ones I love. But now I’m spending more time in the penalty box than on the ice and the team owner isn’t happy.

Finding myself across the room from the hot therapist I kissed on New Year’s Eve only makes me push my problems down further. I want couch time with her but not the kind she’s used to.

I decide to lie to her just to finish off my therapy so I can do what I really want—date her—even if she says she doesn’t date hockey players. Just when my therapy sessions are up and I’ve made some headway with Paisley, it’s my parents who throw another wrench in my plans.

If I abide by my parent’s wishes to marry the one they’ve chosen, I’ll lose Paisley forever. But if I go against my parents, I’m failing my deceased best friend all over again.
