faking itDerek Rory never meant to propose to his best friend’s little sister. But when her boss tells a family-oriented investor he’s Stephanie’s fiancé, Derek can either play along or let her get fired. He’s hardly one to turn away from a damsel in distress. If only that damsel wasn’t adorable and sexy with a laugh that could melt any cold business mogul’s heart.

When a business proposal becomes a marriage proposal, Stephanie Miller tries to keep it strictly boardroom. But when things get hot under the table, it’s all they can do to stay apart. As the tangle of lies drags them deeper into the underhanded world of business politics, Stephanie finds herself in over her head—not just with her job, but with her “fiancé.” His eyes are cold, but his kisses light her on fire. If she’s not careful, she’ll end up faking her way into a real romance.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

I will admit this was my first Diane Alberts book and I actually found it so-so. I didn’t dislike it, but it won’t find its way to my top 20. I’m willing to read a few more of Diane’s books before giving up on her.

Part of my problem with this book is the heroine Stephanie. She claims that she is tired of her three brothers always being there to protect her, yet she can’t seem to manage to make it on her own. I found her to be a bit overbearing and her temper tantrums were very annoying!

I did find Stephanie’s brother Aaron to be very likable and while he didn’t actually plan to set up Stephanie and his best friend Derek he did ask Derek to help his sister win over the big investor so that she would get the project she so needed. Aaron was always there for Stephanie helping anyway he could yet when his finance dies Stephanie wasn’t there for him, which is another reason why I found Stephanie to be selfish.

Derek on the other hand, is one seriously HOT alpha dude, while he does have some personal issues regarding his dad that he needs to get over he was still always there helping Stephanie even when it pissed her off. He did what he thought was best and somehow Stephanie always found fault with it.

“I helped you because I couldn’t not help you. Don’t you understand that?”

“No. I don’t.”

“I helped you because I care about you too much to stand by and watch you struggle.”

All-in-all, I enjoyed the book, but didn’t love it. There were some really laugh your ass off moments, there were some steamy moments, there were a lot of moments when I just wanted to reach through my kindle and slap Stephanie and her arrogant boss and there were numerous times when I wanted to hug Derek.

If you looking for a fun, easy read then this is the book for you.
