kiss me at midnightHer New Year’s resolution was seduction.

When her long lost and oh-so-sexy ex-best friend, Ethan Pierce, shows up as if he hadn’t broken her heart all those years ago, suddenly she doesn’t want to bring home just any man. She wants Ethan.

What should have been one night of blow-your-mind make-up sex quickly turns into another. And another. Before long, Ashley thinks maybe she and Ethan should reunite for good. If only the elusive bachelor will stop running from his tortured past and trust a future in Ashley’s arms.

Reviewer’s Thoughts

Ashley Hanes and Ethan Pierce both want the same thing on New Year’s eve. They want uncomplicated no strings attached sex.  They are just looking for some good ol’ fashion fun…a romp if you will.  To make things complicated, Ethan Pierce broke Ashley’s heart back in high school.  They were best friends and then one day he just stopped talking to her.  Ashley tried everything to get him to open back up to her but after graduation, he moved away and never looked back.  Ethan doesn’t come back to his hometown unless forced and the holidays is usually what forces his hand.  He was the school geek and was bullied by almost everybody, so there is no surprise that he is bitter about it and harbors a ton of resentment toward the entire town.  He started a new life that has no room for feelings and relationships.  When they meet up in a bar, they agreed on one night only. One night of no-strings attached sex. But despite their best efforts, the one night turns into a string of hot steamy nights.

Kiss Me at Midnight proves that less is sometimes a whole lot more. This book is less than half the size of a normal book.  The novella had all the perfect pieces though: witty characters who are lovable, great chemistry, absolutely hilarious banter between the two mains, and lots of steamy sex.  The ending was predictable but I picked up this book with the hope of nothing more than a steamy HEA.  The story flowed and allowed for no boring moments or chapters.  Writing a novella can be daunting but Diane Alberts really did get this one exactly right!
