New Release: My Unexpected Surprise by Piper Rayne

My Unexpected Surprise is a solid entry into the Greene family series. This time we see Fisher (the sheriff) in the starring role with Allie (a Bailey series secondary/crossover character).

This was a well written and entertaining read, but I have to admit that some of the character and emotional development seemed to skim the surface. As Fisher and Allie dealt with their “surprise” he said and did all the “right” things, but his evolution to get there seemed to be condensed into several conversations. The way Allie’s character evolved seemed more organic and realistic to me. I rooted for these characters and found myself hoping they would find a happy ending to their journey.

As the 5th book in the Greene series, Fisher and Allie are surrounded by a large secondary cast. The duo behind Piper Rayne do an excellent job of managing this cast so that all of the various Greenes (and a few Baileys) don’t overwhelm the core story. Loyal series followers will appreciate a few cameo appearances and there are several teasers for future potential stories. I am definitely curious about who will have a book next!
